The first concrete financial data and timeline estimates for Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most talked-about titles in the gaming world, have surfaced. A recent report prepared by the Polish investment and analysis firm Noble Securities reveals that this massive project, codenamed “Project Orion,” will be developed with a budget exceeding approximately 1.5 billion Polish zlotys, or $419 million at current exchange rates.
Cyberpunk 2 project confirmed
This massive budget plan shows that CD Projekt RED is not just planning a sequel, but a sustainable digital ecosystem that will generate revenue for over a decade. The fact that The Witcher 3, the company’s biggest past success, has maintained its sales performance even after ten years is considered a fundamental strategic basis for this high-cost investment.
The analysis report indicates a release date of the fourth quarter of 2030. This date is symbolically significant as it coincides with the tenth anniversary of the first game in the series, Cyberpunk 2077. On the other hand, the studio’s current main focus remains The Witcher 4 project, with 447 developers actively working on it.
The Cyberpunk 2 team currently consists of 135 people, but it is stated that this number will double in the next two years. This gradual growth strategy confirms that the full-scale production process of the game will only accelerate after the completion of The Witcher 4.
Another critical detail in the report is the return of the multiplayer systems, which were planned for the first game but canceled due to technical glitches and priority changes. Noble Securities reports that one of the main factors in the extended development time of Cyberpunk 2 and its budget exceeding the $400 million mark is the integration of online components into the game.
CD Projekt RED’s 2017 grant from the Polish government for online game technologies and the emphasis on network systems in current job postings confirm that the multiplayer mode will be central to the project. Having achieved 35 million sales success for the series, the studio is determined to deliver a much more comprehensive experience in the second game, free from technical bugs and supported by online elements.
